Welcome to the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Economic Development Corporation (SLFA-EDC) website. The SLFA-EDC was created to foster the economic growth and prosperity of the signatory communities of the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord and provide lasting opportunities for our people.

Created in 2020, our mission is to provide leadership excellence in economic development for our communities, members, and partners, now and for future generations. This united mission will enable us to carry out a shared vision of developing vibrant communities and improving the quality of life in our communities and the region as a whole.

Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord

Sioux Lookout is referred to as the “Hub of the North” as it is uniquely positioned as the access point to many communities in Northern Ontario. The Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord was founded in 2017 and is an agreement between Cat Lake First Nation, Lac Seul First Nation, Slate Falls First Nation, and Kichenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation, as well as the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.

The Friendship Accord was created to allow these communities to work collaboratively on many aspects of community management in order to share sustainable prosperity, inspire change and hope, and to foster healing and opportunities for future generations. The Friendship Accord strives to adhere to the following core values:

Fulfillment of social responsibility and a declaration to build healthy, just, and competitive communities

Creation of economic independence for individuals, businesses, and communities

Advancement of both economic development and financial independence through cooperation and collaboration

Focus on diversity, tolerance, and equity

“Together, we are more. This Accord demonstrates the way in which we can join forces to become a stronger, more responsive educator of our own people in a workforce that awaits them. Delivering skills-based training in-community in this way will further support learners and contribute to their success.”
